In the past, Hairy-Nosed Wombats were killed for food by humans and natural predators. Now, habitat loss due to human activity, climate change and competition for food with introduced and some native herbivores are the Wombat’s biggest threats along with people who consider them to be pests. Sarcoptic mange, sometimes spread by foxes and dogs, can also affect and kill entire colonies.
